The Clinical Studies

Efficacy study

A 6-month double-blind, third-party clinical study evaluated the effects of OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM on hair density, thickness, shedding, and scalp health in 32 participants (23 female, 9 male) ages 27–55, using OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM twice daily and dermarolling once daily. Hair parameters including hair growth, thickness, density, and hair cycle were measured via HairMetrix® clinical photography, trichoscopy, and phototrichogram. Expert graders also evaluated hair parameters and participant provided subjective self-reported feedback.

The results1:

Microbiome study

A 6-month third-party study by HelloBiome with 30 participants evaluated the impact of OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM on the scalp microbiome. Participants showed significant improvements in bacterial diversity and an increase in M. globosa abundance, resulting in a lower M. restricta/M. globosa ratio—a marker associated with improved scalp health.

How to use

Fill the glass pipette with serum by squeezing the applicator bulb (the pipette will be about half full). Apply the serum directly to your scalp and massage in to ensure even distribution. We recommend applying two pipettes’ worth (2 squeezes) to the entire scalp during each application. Do not rinse, and style as usual. Use 2x daily on dry or damp hair.

A 50 mL bottle of OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM should last approximately 30 days with regular use.

    Excited to see results

    I’ve only been using for a couple weeks but the serum is easy to apply and massages in well. I don’t think I’ve seen results yet, but this product is giving me hope after I noticed postpartum hair loss. At the very least I feel like I’m nourishing my hair and scalp.

    Hi!

    We love that you're paying close attention to what's in your skincare! Ingredient and formulation transparency is incredibly important to us, so let's walk through this together.

    First, some good news: phenoxyethanol is not banned in the United States, the European Union, or Japan. What differs between regions is how each one regulates it, not whether it's considered safe. In the EU and Japan, phenoxyethanol is legally capped at concentrations of 1% or less in cosmetic products. In the U.S., the FDA has reviewed phenoxyethanol and considers it safe for cosmetic use at that same general range, relying on an ongoing expert safety review process rather than a fixed legal percentage. So while the regulatory approach differs by country, the safety conclusion lines up everywhere: this ingredient is considered safe at low concentrations.

    We also wanted to note that phenoxyethanol is not an ingredient in the formula for OS-01 HAIR!

    For our other products, phenoxyethanol wasn't a default choice for us — it was a deliberate one, backed by our own testing. We included phenoxyethanol to ensure the stability of our formula, at a concentration significantly below the 1% safety cutoff recognized internationally. We chose it specifically because we ran extensive safety testing to confirm it would be gentle enough for sensitive skin while effectively preventing microbial growth within the formula — which matters just as much for your safety as the ingredients we leave out. OS-01 FACE is already formulated without fragrance, parabens, sulfates, lanolin, MCI/MI, DEA, heavy metals, talc, petrolatum, phthalates, and PFAs, and phenoxyethanol was selected as one of the most thoroughly studied, well-tolerated preservative options available today, used at a concentration well within the range experts consider safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this serum alongside minoxidil or other hair treatments and products?

OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM complements other medical-grade treatments and can be used alongside other products as well. We always recommend applying OS-01 HAIR first and patch-testing when using other products to ensure the combination of all products works well for you.

 

If you are currently using a product containing Minoxidil please DO NOT completely stop use of that product or treatment. We recommend using OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM in combination with the product containing Minoxidil. You can start using OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM immediately, but do not stop Minoxidil abruptly. If you plan to discontinue Minoxidil, we recommend tapering off gradually over a few weeks or months to minimize excessive shedding. Please contact your physician for individual recommendations on how to safely discontinue the use of Minoxidil.

Can I use this serum if I have sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp?

Absolutely. OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM was formulated without known irritants and is clinically validated to be suitable for sensitive skin and scalps.

Is this serum suitable for all hair types?

Definitely! OS-01 HAIR is suitable for all hair types, including oily hair, and integrates easily into any hair care routine with visible results within as little as 90 days.

Is this safe for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

All OneSkin products are free of sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. Additionally, we post the full ingredient list of each product on the description pages. We recommend consulting with your doctor if you have any concerns about starting new products while pregnant or breastfeeding, as they know your particular needs best. As always, we recommend pregnant and breastfeeding women consult their physician with any questions or concerns.

Do I apply this before washing my hair or can I leave it on?

OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM should be left on and not rinsed. Apply 1mL of OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM 1-2x daily (AM or PM) directly to your entire scalp and massage in with your fingertips. Leave on, and do not rinse. For enhanced absorption, use a dermaroller on a clean scalp before application.
