Four scientists on a mission to redefine aging

As scientists with PhDs in skin regeneration, stem cell biology, immunology, and bioinformatics, our journey began with a simple question: are any of the so-called "anti-aging" products on the market actually effective? To our surprise, most didn’t promote real rejuvenation. And while evaluating them in the lab, we discovered some were even harmful at the cellular level.

That’s when we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. More than 5 years of research and 900+ peptides later, we developed the OS-01 Peptide™ – the first ingredient scientifically proven to reverse skin’s biological age. By targeting cellular senescence (one of the key drivers of skin aging) the OS-01 Peptide™ switches off the damaged cells that contribute to lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

But our vision was never just about looks. We started OneSkin to enhance how skin functions, so it stays healthier and more resilient as you age. Carolina Reis Oliveira, PhD

Fascinated with biology from a young age, Carolina knew she’d have a future in science. A fearless leader with a passion for longevity and living life to the fullest, she embarked on an ambitious goal: to delay the onset of age-related diseases by targeting aging itself. This led her to earn degrees in stem cell biology and tissue engineering, and a doctorate in immunology. Then, determined to translate her academic achievements into real-world impact, Carolina left her native Brazil for Silicon Valley, co-founding OneSkin in 2016. As Chief Executive Officer, Carolina and her team spearhead research and development, creating molecules that target cellular aging, including their pioneering innovation, the OS-01 Peptide™.

Alessandra Zonari, PhD

Alessandra isn’t your typical scientist. She’s a visionary with a passion for longevity, skin regeneration, and the occasional karaoke jam. Growing up in a close-knit family in Brazil, Alessandra saw her grandparents struggle with age-related diseases and soon became fascinated by the possibility of using stem cells to redefine the aging process. After earning degrees in biology and stem cell biology plus a doctorate in skin regeneration and tissue engineering,, Alessandra joined OneSkin in 2017 as a founding member and Chief Scientific Officer. Her contributions include 20+ papers, 3 patents, and the development of their proprietary OS-01 Peptide™.

Mariana Boroni, PhD

Mariana Boroni, PhD, co-founder, earned her Master’s degree in biochemistry, and her PhD in bioinformatics with an emphasis in genomics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Mariana did her post-doctoral at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich in Germany, and worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Birmingham, England. Mariana is Head of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Lab at the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA). Together with the OneSkin team, Mariana developed the company’s proprietary skin-specific DNAm age predictor. Mariana is co-inventor of four patents, and has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals.

Juliana Carvalho, PhD

Juliana Carvalho, PhD, earned her Master’s degree in biochemistry and immunology, and her PhD in molecular biology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. In 2015, Juliana joined the Catholic University of Brasilia as a professor of pathology, and in 2019, she joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Brasilia. As an advisor to students earning their Masters and PhD degrees in science at both the University of Brasilia and the Catholic University of Brasilia, Juliana guides the newest scientists of our generation. Juliana is co-inventor of four patents, and has published 34 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals (and counting!).
