The Science Behind OS-01 FACE
01

01 OS-01 FACE Can Increase Skin’s Epidermal Thickness

By conducting an epidermal thickness analysis of ex vivo human skin samples, our scientists found that skin treated with OS-01 FACE displayed a significant increase in epidermal thickness of 23.15%.03
Epidermal thickness analysis of ex vivo human skin samples topically exposed to nothing (NT) or OS-01 FACE. Treatment with OS-01 FACE induced a significant increase in epidermal thickness of 23.15%. Taken from the average of three measurements from each skin sample (35, 55, and 79 yr). *p<0.05
02

02 OS-01 FACE Increases Key Biomarkers Associated with Cell Proliferation and Collagen Production

In lab studies, our scientists exposed ex vivo human skin samples to either nothing (No Treatment) or OS-01 FACE, then evaluated the effect on key biomarkers associated with cell proliferation, MKI67, and collagen production, COL1A1.
Expression of biomarkers associated with collagen production (COL1A1) and cell proliferation (MKi67) in the dermis of ex vivo human skin samples following treatment with nothing (No Treatment) or OS-01 FACE. **p<0.01
Exposure to OS-01 FACE increased both biomarkers03, indicating that OS-01 FACE may promote cell proliferation and collagen production, which can promote firmer, more renewed skin.

OS-01 FACE Under the Microscope

We took a look at ex vivo human skin samples that were exposed to nothing (No Treatment) or OS-01 FACE under the microscope to observe the impact on skin’s morphology and structure.
Histology images of ex vivo human skin samples from a 35 year old donor exposed to nothing (No Treatment) vs OS-01 FACE.
From this imaging, we can see that treatment with OS-01 FACE promoted a more cohesive stratum corneum (top layer), with a more defined general structure and cellular organization, indicating that the skin’s barrier was likely strengthened and skin structure was improved when treated with OS-01 FACE.03
We can also visually confirm the increase in epidermal thickness (middle layer) that was observed in our epidermal thickness analysis, as expected.
Exposure to OS-01 FACE increased both biomarkers, indicating that OS-01 FACE may promote cell proliferation and collagen production, which can promote firmer, more renewed skin.

04
Retinol Increases a Key Marker Associated with Skin Aging. OS-01 FACE Does Not.
Our scientists exposed ex vivo human skin samples to OS-01 FACE and retinol, then analyzed key biomarkers associated with skin aging, CDKN2A, and collagen production, COL1A1, to determine their potential effect on skin at a molecular level.
Expression of biomarkers associated with skin aging (CDK2NA), and collagen production (COL1A1) in the dermis of ex vivo human skin samples following treatment with nothing (No Treatment), OS-01 FACE, or 1% retinol. *p<0.05
We found that while retinol was effective at significantly increasing a key biomarker associated with collagen production, COL1A1, it also led to a 10-fold increase in a key biomarker associated with aging, CDKN2A. Alternatively, treatment with OS-01 FACE was able to significantly increase the collagen production biomarker, COL1A1, at similar levels to retinol, without affecting the same biomarker associated with aging, CDKN2A, that retinol increased.03
